The Lubar Institute for the Study of the Abrahamic Religions is pleased to announce its leadership role in spearheading the President’s Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge at the University of Wisconsin-Madison this academic year.

Since his inauguration, President Obama has emphasized interfaith cooperation and community service as an important way to build understanding between different communities and contribute to the common good.

This past spring, the White House launched the challenge and invited campuses around the nation to submit proposals describing how they would advance interfaith and community service initiatives during the course of the 2011-2012 academic year. UW-Madison's proposal was accepted and a small delegation of Madison staff members were asked to be part of the White House kick-off meeting in D.C. in early August.

LISAR Director Professor Charles Cohen is the faculty lead for the UW's effort. By partnering with such widespread campus organizations as the Office of the Provost, the Morgridge Center for Public Service and the Multicultural Student Center, LISAR hopes interfaith understanding and religion in the public sphere will be a high priority at UW-Madison this coming year.

We invite you to check back frequently to monitor the progress we are making on our goal of increasing the visibility of interfaith religious life on campus. We are proud that LISAR has been selected to lead this worthy and high profile charge.
